HTML to EPUB: turn one web page into an ebook
HTML to EPUB converts the single HTML file you upload. Images and CSS referenced by relative path are not included. How to keep pictures, and the online steps.
HTML to EPUB turns one web-page file into an ebook you can read offline. It does not crawl a site, and it does not follow a link to the next page. The file you upload is the file that converts.
A blog post, a manual, or a chapter already saved as one .html file fits. A whole site, or a page behind a login, does not.
How do you make that one file self-contained?
"Save as HTML only" in a browser often leaves images pointing at the original site or at a folder next to the file. Conversion happens on the server. Those relative images and stylesheets do not come along.
You get the words, lose the pictures, and fall back to default styling. Two ways to avoid that:
- Embed the images inside that one HTML file.
- Skip HTML. Put the piece in Word and follow Word to EPUB. Embedded images in the DOCX upload with the document.
Use h1 and h2 for titles, not bold text alone. The converter uses heading levels for chapters, the same way Word needs Heading 1.
How do you convert it here?
- Open EPUB converter. If you start at HTML converter, change the output to EPUB.
- Drop that one
.htmlor.htmfile. The limit is 50MB. - Start conversion and stay on the page.
- Open the EPUB on the section that had a figure. A missing image means the HTML never contained it. The download is not truncated.
FB2 usually carries its own image data. That path is FB2 to EPUB.
What should you do with the EPUB?
Put it in Apple Books or Kobo, or send it to Kindle. Do not treat it as a page to publish back to the web. If you only wanted the words for notes, EPUB to TXT is a later step, and it drops images and heading levels. Keep this EPUB first.
Common questions
Can I turn a whole website into one EPUB?
No. You upload one HTML file. The converter does not follow links and fetch more pages. Combine the pages into one HTML first, or use DOCX.
The pictures disappeared.?
Images and CSS referenced by a relative path are not inside the file you uploaded, so the server cannot see them. Embed the images in the HTML, or convert a DOCX that already contains them.
Will headings become a table of contents?
h1 and h2 elements are much more likely to become chapters than a bold paragraph. A font size set only as inline style often does not.
