Online UTF-8 Decoder
Online UTF-8 decoder: convert a UTF-8 hexadecimal (Hex) string back to text in your browser instantly. Supports space-separated input.
Tool input and output
UTF-8 decoding use cases
This tool restores a UTF-8 hexadecimal byte string to readable text. It is used to read Hex recorded by packet captures, logs or binary protocols, verify character encodings, and convert byte sequences from APIs back to strings.
Input accepts continuous Hex or space-separated forms. Chinese, English and emoji all decode correctly, and invalid bytes are reported instead of silently producing mojibake.
How does UTF-8 represent a character?
UTF-8 encodes a character as a variable number of bytes, from 1 to 4. The definition is RFC 3629.
“UTF-8 encodes UCS characters as a varying number of octets, where the number of octets, and the value of each, depend on the integer value assigned to the character in ISO/IEC 10646.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I separate Hex bytes with spaces?
Yes. Both continuous Hex (e.g. 68656c6c6f) and space-separated forms (e.g. 68 65 6c 6c 6f) are supported, and newline-separated input works too.
Decoding fails or reports invalid bytes. What should I do?
Make sure the Hex string has an even number of digits using only 0-9, a-f or A-F, and that the original bytes really are UTF-8. Data in other encodings such as GBK cannot be restored correctly.
Are UTF-8 decoding and encoding reversible?
Yes. Encoding text to Hex and then decoding it restores the original text, which is useful for verifying the conversion process.
